The selection of hotels and lodges was remarkable, blending comfort, elegance, and location. The lodges were friendly, comfortable, well located, and fit perfectly into our journey, creating a sense of harmony throughout the trip. Each property offered a unique experience, but two standouts deserve special mention. The Bolton Hotel in Wellington impressed us with its prime location and superb facilities, making it a perfect urban retreat. Equally captivating was the Classic Villa in Christchurch, a timeless property that exuded charm and sophistication, offering a serene ambiance after days of exploration.
Touristic Highlights with a Wow Factor
The itinerary was a masterclass in showcasing New Zealand’s diversity. Among the many highlights, the gannet colony at Hawke’s Bay (Napier) was a breathtaking spectacle of nature. Our guide, Stephen Popperwell, elevated the experience beyond expectations—his sense of humor and dedication, especially on Christmas Day, was exemplary and deeply appreciated. Cultural enrichment came through the Te Papa Tongarewa Museum, a treasure trove of history and art. For a touch of indulgence, the gin tasting in Martinborough was a delightful surprise, while the visit to the White Heron Sanctuary offered a rare and serene encounter with one of New Zealand’s most elegant birds. Adding to the magic were the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, an enchanting underground world illuminated by thousands of bioluminescent creatures, and the National Kiwi Hatchery, where we witnessed conservation in action and learned about the efforts to protect New Zealand’s iconic bird.
Culinary Delight
Food arrangements throughout the journey were exceptional. Every meal was a celebration of flavor, thoughtfully curated to accommodate preferences while showcasing New Zealand’s gastronomic richness. From fine dining to local specialties, the culinary experience was consistently savory and satisfying.

Covering 4,000 kilometers, the drive was an adventure in itself - rewarding, comfortable, and undeniably enjoyable. The number of days in each location and the transit times were exceptionally well prepared and distributed, ensuring a seamless flow throughout the trip. Adding to the sense of perfection was the KiwiRail TranzAlpine experience to Arthur’s Pass, which worked flawlessly and provided a spectacular perspective of New Zealand’s alpine beauty. Equally memorable were the Interislander ferry service, offering a smooth and scenic crossing between the islands, and the majestic Huka Falls, a natural wonder that left us in awe. The itinerary’s design allowed us to experience New Zealand holistically, weaving together its cultural, natural, gastronomic, political, and social dimensions. This comprehensive approach transformed the tour into more than a vacation; it was an immersion into the essence of the country.
